"Спочатку було Слово"

"Спочатку було Слово"

On October 2, at 4 p.m., the Lviv Museum of the History of Religion will present a new project, “In the Beginning Was the Word.” It is dedicated to the history of human communication—from the first signs and writing to the modern digital world.

The exhibition invites visitors to reflect on the power of the written word, how it sounds now, and what it will become in the future. It reminds us of the enormous importance of books. It is a space for dialogue between the present and the past, a search for answers in the texts, images, and meanings that we continue to create.

The exhibition is structured like a kaleidoscope: each section is a separate mini-exhibition. From the emergence of writing and symbols to music as a form of expression, libraries, and archives; from translators and prophets to censorship, words as weapons and protection; as well as books today.

Visitors will be presented with extremely interesting archaeological artifacts, Trypillian ceramics, items with Egyptian hieroglyphs and ancient cuneiform, traditional Plisnesk writing implements, copies of Neil Khasevich's graphics, which were seized in Kryivka, where the artist died in 1952.

At the exhibition, you will be able to see the Ostroh Bible, other old prints, as well as the first editions of Ivan Kotlyarevsky, Lesya Ukrainka, and Panteleimon Kulish.

The presented printing matrices from the Basilian printing house of the interwar period, matrices for printing books of the 18th century, and matrices by Sofia Karaffa-Korbut will help you feel the magic of how a book became art in the hands of masters.
